Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green GBA - If you have never played one of the Pokemon rpgs before, this is a perfect place to start. A remake of the original game that started it all, with tons of gameplay and a sorta "rpg-lite" feel. Look past what everybody says about Pokemon and give it a go. _________________

Guilty Gear X2 #Reload - The bizzarness you'd expect from Guilty Gear, with more characters, more levels, more costumes, more game modes, and Xbox Live head-to-head. Best 2D fighter I've played in quite a long time.
Plus, any game with a guitar-playing witch with an evil talking hat who goes topless for her finishing pose has GOT to be good. _________________ AND THRUST! (7•_•)7 ----> (>^.^)> ----> (›°¬°)› ----> *SPLURT* |

Katamari Damacy - PS2 - One of the quirkiest and most charming games to come out this generation. With innovative gameplay, an amazing soundtrack, and one of the craziest translations in recent memory, no persons ps2 library is complete without this budget title. Can get a bit repetitious after a while, it can't be beat for the price. _________________

Pikmin - GC: Pikmin is basicaly an RTS (real time strategy) lite featuring a stranded space adventurer and his legion of sentient plant warriors. Very soothing, yet, compelling gameplay. It pains me to have any pikmin die, even if they are plants. Thumbs up. _________________

Yes, that is two words.
I just reviewed this just in case they have it at Sam's and you're actually thinking of buying it. _________________ "America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, bad ass speed."

Paper Mario Thousand Year Door - This was a fun, relaxing, and not overly difficult rpg. It had good writing, and fans of Mario stuff will really enjoy it. While very similar to the N64 version, it is still a great game and worth the 30 hours or so that it takes to finish it. _________________

Resident Evil 4 - Gamecube: There is something about this game that makes it INCREDIBLY ADDICTING. I didn't want to play it.. It scared me. Yet i continued. Hell, i beat it twice.. Then i started playing a third time and got to disc 2. Graphics, beautiful, sound, great, controls, fine tuned, but the best part of this game is THE CAMERA ANGLES. No more fixed camera = no more headache.. Factor in the minigames and you have an amazing game..
Pokemon Collosseum - Gamecube: This game was, simply put, A BITCH. Took me just over 30 hours to beat but when i look back it seems like it should have only taken me 9. I spent so much time dying and trying the battle over and over. Plus, for the tremendous amount of effort i put in, they give us THE SHITTIEST ENDING TO AN "RPG" THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED. But i won't spoil it... In conclusion, don't play this game unless you're a pokemon diehard.
------Edit-------
Sorry about turning the 30 seconds into 1 minute reviews.. i didn't realise once i started to vent it would all flow out :x _________________ sup |

Metal Gear Sold 3: Snake Eater - Whatever you think of the gameplay as you work your way through this atmospheric beauty of a game, the ending will leave you amazed, tearful and once again thankful for the medium of videogames. _________________ ~ together we could be jedis. |

Tekken 5
WARNING: THIS IS NOT 30 SECONDS. Just so you know. :D
Tekken, Tekken, Tekken. Every couple of years we get one and it's soooooooooooo popular. Everyone who knows anything about the inside world of videogames was not amused with the little Tekken 4 had to offer, when compared to it's predecessors, Tekken 3/Tag Tournament. A few graphical and fighting tweaks were added, but the bland storyline and broken sidestepping system brought little much to the table. And then Tekken 5 was dropped on us (somewhat) unexpectedly. Whether this was good or bad, I couldn't tell at the time. Simply put, Tekken is still Tekken. Same recycled characters, same recycled storyline. They added more dialogue, however, a nice little change, but not really enough to amuse you. Also added are the original arcade versions of Tekkens 1-3, a minigame named Starblade, and a substory featuring Jin and his Devil powers. Also included is a Virtua Fighter 4-like mode where you get to purchase items to customize your character. However, this does not sweeten the bitter Tekken 5. As far as gameplay, everyone handles as they did before, and if you played Tekken 4, you'll feel right at home. Including with the broken sidestepping technique. I wish they would incorporate a more SoulCalibur-esque control system, but I don't think that will happen, as Namco seems to like half-assing combat on the Tekken formula. I also don't care much for the new characters (nor do I really care much for the old ones, the new ones are just an attempt at breathing new life into the franchise). One thing to point out, though, are the beautiful (though few) stages. I'm in love with the a level that features a field of white glowing flowers under a moonlit sky. And the lighting effects make you feel like you're right in the middle of the fight. There's one level where this really shows, on top of a mountain with a red and black sky, with your characters fighting in the (well designed) shadows. Overall, I believe this game deserves a 5.5. When you compare what Tekken should be doing by now, and what it actually delivers, I believe I have been somewhat lenient on my score. _________________ "America is all about speed. Shin Megami Tensei - Digital Devil Saga.
An RPG with a non generic story, difficulty that will kick your ass, and one of the quickest battle systems I've ever seen. About 20 - 30 hours long, longer if you decide to do optional bosses (of which there is a ton, for you masochists out there). A game that makes you use your brain, get it before it gets rare, then wait for DDS 2. |
