Yesterday I picked up the Treasure developed Astroboy, and lemme tell you it is the secksy.

Kinda like a combination between Mega Man, Silouette Mirage, and Contra, with the obvious Treasure nod to lots of different bosses all having different styles to beat 'em.

There are also pure shooting stages where you just fly Astro around shutemup style.

Very good stuff, I'll be back to post more after I play it a bit more, but here are some screenies to tide you over:

I was gonna reserve a copy thinking it would be difficult to find, but I ended up seeing tons of copies when I was out and about this weekend.

Wouldn't be surprised if it has a low print run though.

And aye - it is really, really good.

I'm near the end now and it is quick to beat, it seems (and I've heard) that there is good incentive to keep playing through.

We shall see...

Would you think a continuation of the story and the introduction of many, many new characters to be enough incentive?

I'd think so.

If this game is a combination of Contra, MegaMan, and Silloute Mirage..

This means that this Astro Boy game must be good. Smile

Honestly - I was never much of a Astroboy fan until I picked this up.

The character designs really didn't do much for me, but I'll admit, the more I'm playing it they really are growing on me.

See, now both versions of Voltron is something that I can identify with!

When I was young I don't remember ever seeing Astroboy, I think about the only thing was the original Speedracer.

I'm on the last stage, nearly ready to finish the game for the first time, just gotta sit down and actually do it.

Man, you are teh lame. The Lion version of Voltron rocked way more face then the car version. The OG Voltron had something every good cartoon should have - a fat guy and a midget. There has not been a show with a fat guy or a miget that has not shaken the world to it's very core. God himself watched the shows with a fat guy and a midget. Plus vehicles that HAVE to merge to form a giant robot and just don't become one on their own are lame.

Robotic lions >> lame robotic cars >> SilverHawks >> j00

Astroboy is old school manga. I think the artist starting drawing those strips after WW2. I don't think the show was ever showen here in the states but I could be wrong.

i completely ignored the car version of voltron. if you want transforming cars, go watch transformers. and why oh why did i ever sell my voltron set... *gouges eyes out*

astroboy is indeed old school manga. first published in 1951 as 'tetsuwan atom', and ran on for 21 years ( give or take a year). animated on the fuji network in the 60's, and around 190 episodes run. then the color version was produced in the 80's. some 50 some episodes... i know too much. i first saw it when i was about six years old, in korea. much of what was produced in japan hit korea, so i was fortunate to view things that just came out. unlike the states, where it takes at least a year or so for licensing to go through... i believe cartoon network did ran a few episodes as a test trial? or is it suppose to happen this coming fall? hell, still is running a a not so popular time slot? (honestly don't remember).

I picked it up a couple days after it came out and it is really really good. I didn't know much about Astroboy either, but because the game was getting such good reviews, I was curious. Later, when I was at my local Library, I saw they had a volume of the original Astroboy manga reprinted by Dark Horse. Needless to say, I checked it out and it is high quality. You'd be surprised how modern those comics seemed compared to the comics in the US that came out in the 60's.

I suggest that all oldschool gamers pick up the Astroboy GBA game right now.

And if you really like manga, it'll be hard to find much better than the Astroboy volumes reprinted by Dark Horse.

Both great stuff, now I'm a fan!
